The Conservation Safari Adventure of a Lifetime

Protecting Africa’s Critically Endangered Rhinos

Guests took part in an exclusive, boots-on-the-ground conservation experience focused on protecting Africa’s critically endangered rhinos from poaching and habitat loss. This was not observational—participants actively joined a rare and vital field operation alongside world-renowned conservationist Nico Jacobs, founder of Rhino 911.

Delivered in collaboration with Headed to Africa and Sikeleli Travel, the May 2025 experience offered guests a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute directly to the protection of Africa’s most iconic and vulnerable species.

The Rhino Conservation Experience offered a rare opportunity to take part in a highly impactful conservation initiative. Participants joined a responsible rhino trimming operation led by esteemed conservationist Nico Jacobs, founder of Rhino 911, working alongside leading wildlife veterinarians, conservationists, and anti-poaching ranger units.

The day began on the ground, tracking rhinos by vehicle as the helicopter team located them from above. This was followed by an extraordinary, close-up encounter with both white and endangered black rhinos, where participants observed—and assisted with—essential medical interventions, including responsible horn trimming to reduce poaching risk.

Comprehensive health assessments were conducted in the field, including blood sampling, vitamin administration, ear notching, satellite tagging, and horn measurements, with procedures determined in real time by the veterinary team. Each participant also had the opportunity to fly in the helicopter with Nico Jacobs, gaining a deeper understanding of the operation from the air.

All work was carried out with the utmost care and precision, overseen by experienced professionals committed to the safety and well-being of these vulnerable animals during every stage of the process.

Sikeleli Travel curated an amazing safari for the clients that joined this trip. Thank you!
