The Conservation Safari Adventure of a Lifetime: Protecting Africa’s Critically Endangered Rhinos
Guests participated in a once-in-a-lifetime experience to protect Africa's majestic rhinos with world-renowned conservationist Nico Jacobs founder of Rhino 911, in collaboration with Headed to Africa and Sikeleli Travel.
Guests joined an exclusive boots on the ground conservation experience and witnessed the groundbreaking efforts taking place to safeguard Africa’s critically endangered rhinos from poaching and habitat loss. They didn't just observe- they actively participated in this rare and vital conservation initiative alongside Nico Jacobs and his team, in collaboration with Headed to Africa and Sikeleli Travel in May 2025.
The Rhino Conservation Experience
The Rhino Conservation Experience was a rare opportunity to take part in a unique and impactful conservation initiative. Participants joined a responsible rhino trimming session led by esteemed conservationist Nico Jacobs, founder of Rhino 911, alongside top wildlife veterinarians, conservationists, and anti-poaching ranger units. They witnessed firsthand the essential medical interventions carried out to protect Africa’s dwindling rhino population.
The experience began on the ground in vehicles, following the helicopter as Nico and the veterinary team located the rhinos. This was followed by a rare, up-close encounter with Africa’s iconic wildlife—specifically the rhino—where participants actively took part in the procedures. These hands-on activities involved various interventions on both white and endangered black rhinos, including responsible horn trimming and maintenance due to continual horn growth.
Comprehensive health assessments were conducted in the field and included blood sampling, vitamin administration, ear notching, satellite tagging, horn measurements, and other necessary procedures determined on-site. At some point during the intervention, each participant also had the chance to ride in the helicopter with Nico Jacobs.
All procedures were meticulously overseen by experienced veterinarians and conservation teams to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals. Utmost care was taken throughout, acknowledging the vulnerability of these majestic creatures during such critical moments.
