Off-Peak Safari Season

I’m excited about the year ahead and the trips that I’m planning in Africa. I love going where the animals are abundant and there’s fewer crowds. An off-season safari in East Africa offers lots of perks. Some of the greatest experiences I’ve had has been in Kenya and Tanzania during the rainy season.  Actually, I’m not put off by the rains, I love the moody sky and high grasses and there’s still lots of animals around and the usual steadfast-conservation work going on that we get to be a part of.

Rains are generally short with an intense downpour, then the sun pops back out. I find it doesn’t impact safari tours and actually enhances the experience with all the lush landscapes and more wildlife. Plus, it’s a great option for budget-conscious travelers that prefer a more authentic experience.  And many animals give birth during East Africa’s two off-peak seasons. It’s a great time to see animals with their young, from cubs and pups to fawns, foals and calves.

Traveling during off-peak periods could be the perfect way to balance weather and temperature with cost and wildlife viewing potential. It’s ideal to watch the baby animals and birds, escape the crowds, save money, watch the sunrises and sunsets which are even more saturated and vibrant, and is much more very private.

On my way!
